MJHS building affordable housing in Broward

Miami Jewish Health Systems broke ground on a $10.5 million affordable housing project in Pembroke Pines.
The nonprofit, which operates nursing homes and assisted living facilities, is building it under the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Section 202 program. The 75 apartments will be designated for low-income seniors.
Miami Jewish said the building, part of its Douglas Gardens North assisted living facility at 705 S.W. 88th Ave., is set to open in 2012.
It hired Coral Gables-based Beauchamp Construction Co. as general contractor. The project seeks silver certification under the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Efficient Design (LEED) program.
“Right alongside our mission of delivering high quality health care, we aim to provide affordable places to live for those who are in need,” Miami Jewish CEO Jeffrey Freimark said in a news release. “Douglas Gardens North serves a critical role in the community, offering safe, affordable homes for our low-income seniors.”
